In this video, we visited the local bakery McLain’s and got a taste of what makes them truly unique. Founded in 1945, McLain’s has been a well-known name in Brookside, as well as in the Kansas City area. At the height of their popularity in the 50’s and 60’s, McLain’s attracted lines which reach all the way out to the doors. But unfortunately, as time went on, McLain’s struggled to keep up with its prior success, which resulted in a change of ownership in 2014. However, despite many hardships, McLain’s still persisted and became the household name that they are today.
Having learned from their previous mistakes, McLain’s employed our help to ramp up their digital marketing in Kansas City. They wanted to put together a video trailer for their bakery, and we promptly answered the call. After all, local digital marketing, and more specifically video production, is our specialty here at J29 Creative.
An important part of local digital marketing is humanizing the businesses that you are dealing with. As a small, local business, you don’t have the marketing budget of a large corporation, and as such, you must spend your time and effort wisely to get the most out of your marketing. Additionally, by making businesses relatable to their target markets, businesses can create more trust with their customers, increasing retention and revenue as a result. At J29 Creative, we helped McLain’s achieve this by conducting a candid and humorous interview with the manager of the bakery, giving the viewers an insider look into their baking process and the personalities of the people who work there.
For this local digital marketing effort, we also went on-site and got some live footage of the bakery during its business hours. When we arrived, our eyes were struck by the huge sign on the wall behind the cash register, which proudly displays the “McLain’s” name and the rich history it represents. As we look across the bakery, we saw rows of neatly displayed sweets: everything from muffins to croissants, and of course, specialties such as the Chocolate Cup Cookie, Butter Roll, and the German Chocolate Coffee Cake. Overall, the open and friendly atmosphere of the bakery eased us in, or any of its visitors, and kept us coming back for more.
