Have you ever noticed the Gatorade Victory Lane at the Kansas Speedway and Homestead Miami Speedway, the multi-media sculpture on ABC’s hit, EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER, the ‘Flight of Ideas’ at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA or the Sculpture that spans over 100 feet and hangs above the baggage carousel in Terminal C? What about the 8,000 pound, thirty foot tall sculpture, HOUSE DREAMING, in Kansas City, Missouri? If so, did you ever wonder where those came from or who makes that type of artwork?

Let me tell you about a ridiculously cool artwork studio, located in the heart of the crossroads that works with metal and many types of materials. They are the ones responsible for the amazing craftsmanship displayed all across the country. These pieces are created by true artists that can be found working alongside each other at the Machine Head’s headquarters.

Dick, aka “Dr. Volvo” owned a successful auto repair shop for 25 years before he set out to follow his creative passion. This led him into the study of advanced welding and machine tool technology.

He started off working along with a few local artists, including his wife Patrice, who is well-known in Kansas City and an established graphic designer. The artists bring him their ideas and he conceptualizes them and real life art masterpiece is born.

A few of the artists to whom they have had the pleasure of working with are:

Tom Corbin

Dierk VanKepple

Beth Nybeck

Jesse Small

Jana Dunn

Anne Lindberg

Jim Woodall

Guinotte Wise

Steve Austin

Jeff Owens
