Tired of all the impersonal sales messages flooding your inbox? Are you thinking about giving up on LinkedIn and taking your content elsewhere? Be patient, don’t give up just yet!
LinkedIn, just like every social media platform, is about being “SOCIAL.” The goal is to help the end-user share more of their personal story and journey, making us unique!
Therefore, they are rolling out some exciting features for individual member profiles in the app, which will allow you to their on-platform presence.
Video Cover
If you’ve been uncomfortable being on camera, you better get used to it as it’s only going to become more mainstream. LinkedIn is adding a new video cover story option, which will enable you to add an introductory video that people can access as they visit your profile.
This will be a game-changer for both job seekers and business owners as it allows you to showcase your personality and share your skillset, products, and services, all in an intro clip.
Once your clip is uploaded, it will have an orange ring around your profile photo, letting people know that a video is available similar to the likes of Instagram story.
Gender Pronouns
Personally, I don’t know if this is necessary, but we live in a world where inclusion is becoming more important daily. This gives recruiters and hiring managers the ability to distinguish the person’s gender preference.
Creator Mode
Lastly, all you creators have been awaiting this rollout! Creators can now creatively showcase their activity and engagement as they are the heartbeat of every social media community. Creators can now give their take on what’s happening in the news to sharing industry insights more effectively.
Now creators can add hashtags indicating topics you post the most, move your featured and activity sections to the top of your profile, and change the connect button to follow (which many you probably have done that manually) to help you better engage with your followers.
But the feature that most excites me within creator mode is the screenshot example above. The ability for the profile background to showcase your live broadcast when you start live streaming on LinkedIn. This will dramatically increase your live show visibility for those who are like me and stream lives religiously. (Learn more about my live stream, BottomsUp Perspective)
I can assure you that LinkedIn is just getting started, with content shared on the platform up 50% year-over-year in 2020 and talks about incentivizing its creators and potentially providing revenue share to top creators. These new additions are the first of many heading in that direction!
IF YOU AREN’T TAKING ADVANTAGE OF LINKEDIN BY CREATING ORIGINAL CONTENT, YOU SHOULD AS IT CAN BENEFIT YOUR CAREER, PERSONAL BRAND, AND BUSINESS SIGNIFICANTLY IN THE NEXT COUPLE YEARS.
