When en route down 63rd street, toward Brookside, it takes you past several of the new favorite hangout spots for foodies and naturalists. Unbakery, Heirloom Bakery and Hearth, and Golden & Pine are a few of the shops and cafes that you will pass by. Brookside is absolutely bursting at the seams with new businesses and most of them draw the organic, healthy, and all-natural crowd. There is a lot of remodeling going on along that street, it’s definitely something worth checking out! It’s one of the happening places in Kansas City right now.
Speaking of business, another business known as LAF aka Life Adapted Fitness, is one of the places you will notice in passing. I stopped to talk with the owner and found myself pleasantly surprised by their amenities and their winning philosophy. I instantly knew that this was something I had to share with Kansas City. It is a gem (gym) located right in the heart of all the new development that is happening.
If you noticed the quote above, it pretty well sums up the thought process by which the owner, Alexander Buie, wrapped the philosophy of his gym around. Through his life and involvement with fitness, his B.S. in exercise science, and personal training experiences, he began to wonder why we adapt our life to involve fitness, instead of adapting our fitness routine(s) to fit into our everyday lives.
The idea of the LAF facility was birthed out of questioning the “normal” way of doing things. A concept of adapting a fitness program to fit each individual person’s lifestyle is fantastic and would sit well with most people. As a mother of two, I personally find that very appealing. LAF gives me the ability to have 24/7 access to the facility every day of the year. This would allow me to put my kids to bed and leave dad in charge so that I could hit the gym. Or, even better, rise before the kids do and go get in some exercise and alone time. I can have the freedom to make my own schedule. I also am given the ability to add in a personal trainer who can help me formulate a routine that fits my lifestyle and can work at my pace. I don’t have to force myself to change everything so it will fit. How helpful is that?! A program that can be adapted to fit into each individual person’s lifestyle.
From clients with amputations, polio, and other debilitating diseases, to professional sports athletes, Buie has worked with them all. His personal training style is using exercise therapy. He has a passion to help with recovery, get his clients focused back on physical movement, and help them create a budget for fitness, whether it’s big or small changes. He is a great candidate for helping to adapt fitness into our lives and create these individual programs!
Most places like this are expensive, but Life Adapted Fitness is very reasonable. It has been developed to have that high class atmosphere, where you can enjoy your experience and workout, but aren’t left feeling like you’re spending a pretty penny for it. Either way, your health is worth it! It sure doesn’t hurt my feelings that it has complimentary towel service! Check them out, right away. It’s a hip place to get rid of your hips.
